On orders of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., the Inter-Agency Energy Efficiency and Conservation Committee (IAEECC) has directed government offices to reduce fuel consumption by at least 10% amid tensions in the Middle East and uncertainty in global oil supply.
In an advisory signed by Energy Secretary Sharon Garin, the panel ordered all national government agencies, government-owned or controlled corporations, state universities and colleges, and local government units to strictly implement fuel-saving measures.
The Department of Energy (DOE) said the move aims to safeguard the country’s energy security through proactive and collective action.
Agencies were told to enforce fuel-efficiency practices such as regular vehicle maintenance, standardized monitoring systems, full-tank fuel measurement, optimized trip management, fuel-efficient driving, gradual shift to electric or hybrid vehicles, and submission of monthly fuel consumption reports.
The DOE will monitor compliance through energy audits and random spot checks by its Energy Audit Team.IMT
