The Marcos Jr. administration has outlined measures to ensure stable electricity supply amid fuel challenges.

Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said the Department of Energy (DOE) is boosting power sources, including coal, renewable energy, and Malampaya gas, while suspending the electricity market to allow cheaper supply.

“We issued department guidelines to allow electricity from cheaper fuel… ERC has now suspended the electricity market so we can have more coal, renewable energy, and even Malampaya-generated power,” added Castro.

The government is also fast-tracking renewable energy projects, with about 500 megawatts already completed and another 500 MW underway to help stabilize prices.

For island areas, the DOE is seeking cheaper diesel for the National Power Corporation to prevent blackouts, while urging solar firms to meet their obligations.

Meanwhile, Marcos Jr. announced the successful drilling of the Camago-3 well, expected to extend the life of the Malampaya gas field and provide cheaper, steadier power.IMT
