Malacañang assured the public that the government will continue a thorough investigation into the disappearance of 34 missing cockfighters, or sabungeros, to ensure justice is served.

“Ipagpatuloy po ang malalimang pag-iimbestiga para malaman kung sino ba talaga ang sangkot dito at mapanagot ang dapat mapanagot,” Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said in a press briefing.

Castro confirmed that the Department of Justice is reviewing the testimonies of four potential witnesses to determine if any can qualify as state witnesses.

“Mayroon pong apat na witnesses na maaaring tumulong, pero kailangan pa nilang i-evaluate ang mga testimony nila para malaman kung sino iyong puwedeng maging state witness,” according to her.

She emphasized that the case will be resolved in accordance with the law, expressing confidence in the integrity of the courts. This came in response to questions about possible links between powerful individuals and the case.

The 34 sabungeros were reported missing between 2021 and 2022, allegedly due to involvement in match-fixing. According to police, they were kidnapped, and one of six suspects recently claimed in a televised interview that the victims were killed and dumped in Taal Lake.IMT
