The Marcos administration is working to safely repatriate 17 Filipino seafarers rescued from the Greek-owned MV Magic Seas following a Houthi rebel attack off Yemen on July 6.

Presidential Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro said the crew is currently staying in a hotel in Djibouti while awaiting their flight home.

All 17 are safe, according to reports from the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW).

The vessel was attacked near Hodeidah by rebels using drones, missiles, RPGs, and small arms, prompting all 22 crew members to abandon ship. The Filipinos were later rescued and transferred to the nearby ship Safeen Prism.

Castro said the DMW is closely coordinating with the seafarers’ agency to ensure their immediate return to the Philippines.IMT
