A graduating student from Iloilo City died after drowning in a resort in Barangay Guia, Pandan, Antique, on Sunday afternoon, Dec. 28.
The victim, a 22-year-old male and resident of Barangay San Isidro, Jaro, was declared dead on arrival at Justice Calixto O. Zaldivar Memorial Hospital.
Initial police investigation showed that the unnamed victim was swimming with his uncle and cousin in Dumagat Cold Spring Resort and Adventure when the incident occurred.
According to Police Lieutenant Allan Otis of the Pandan police station, the victim didn’t come up after submerging in a deep portion of the spring, prompting his companions to call for help.
The resort’s lifeguard immediately jumped into the water to search for the victim. He found the body unconscious and unresponsive underwater.
Otis said further investigation is ongoing to determine if there was any negligence on the part of the resort.IMT
