Senator Risa Hontiveros was elected Tuesday, Aug. 26, as Minority Floor Leader of the Commission on Appointments (CA) during its first plenary session in the 20th Congress.
Hontiveros took her oath before CA chairman and Senate President Francis Escudero.
“Malaking karangalan po na maihalal ng ating mga kasamahan na maging pinuno ng minorya sa Commission on Appointments. We will work hard to ensure that the CA conscientiously fulfills its mandate in confirming or rejecting key appointments by the President,” she said.
Hontiveros was nominated for the position by Senate Deputy Minority Leader Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri.
The CA, created under the 1987 Constitution, reviews and confirms presidential appointments, including Cabinet secretaries, ambassadors, consuls, and senior military officers. It is composed of members from both the Senate and the House of Representatives.IMT
