Two more confirmed cases of mpox, a viral zoonotic disease caused by the monkeypox virus, have been detected in Iloilo City.
The new infections brought the total mpox caseload in the city to six. Of these, five are males and one is female.
City health officer Dr. Mary Ann Diaz said one of the laboratory confirmed cases has already fully recovered.
CHO also recorded six suspected cases. They are awaiting confirmatory test results from the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM).
“The first recorded cases have fully recovered as of June 5, 2025. Today, a total of 12 cases were recorded, six confirmed and six suspected,” Diaz said.
The virus can be transmitted to humans through close and intimate contact with someone who is infectious, through contaminated materials like used clothes or utensils, or through infected animals.
Common symptoms include a skin rash or mucosal lesions, which can last two to four weeks.IMT
