The digital trail is heating up as Iloilo City police zero in on suspects behind a string of bomb threats, applying a cyber warrant to seven Facebook accounts believed to be involved.
Police Colonel Kim Legada, Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) director, said they initially submitted 20 accounts to Meta, Facebook’s parent company, for investigation, but only seven produced actionable results.
The accounts are now the focus of a cyber warrant, which legally compels the disclosure of account owner information for potential use in court.
“The cyber warrant allows us to access critical information that could lead to the identification of those responsible,” Legada said, emphasizing that the probe is far from over.
The investigation also put a hold on the P100,000 reward offered by the city government for tips leading to an arrest. The reason was simple: the bomb threats appear to involve multiple individuals, and current evidence suggests the accounts may not be interconnected.
Legada assured the public that the ICPO is leaving no stone unturned.
“We are committed to identifying and apprehending all those responsible, including any possible masterminds behind these threats,” he stressed.
The move signals a shift in law enforcement strategy in Iloilo City, combining traditional investigation with cybercrime tools to tackle threats that increasingly exploit social media.
Residents are urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity, while authorities continue to piece together the digital breadcrumbs in this unfolding case.IMT
