Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA) officials thanked President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for transforming the Iloilo Fish Port Complex into a world-class, disaster-resilient facility that boosts trade and supports local livelihoods.

PFDA Acting General Manager Glen Pangapalan said the upgraded market hall now meets near-global standards, featuring modern cold storage, solar panels, commercial and administration buildings, improved roads, and a breakwater to protect against waves and flooding.

“Mas in-improve, mas pinaganda. Sabihin na natin, this is ’yung global standard. Kahit pumunta ka sa ibang bansa na mas advanced pa sa atin, parang mai-compare mo itong market hall na ito or ‘yung structure ng Iloilo fish port na hindi man makapantay, but malapit-lapit na sa kanila ‘yung standard,” said Pangapalan.

Port Manager Jovy Garrido noted the facility’s resilience to typhoons and monsoon rains, saying the improvements directly address the needs of fisherfolk and clients.

He added that the project benefits nearly all who depend on the port for their livelihood.

“Tulong din sa mga kabuhayan ng halos lahat ng nandito lalo na sa Iloilo Fish Port. Salamat sa infrastructure na mga ganito. Sagot sa mga problema, sagot sa lahat,” Garrido also said.

The Iloilo Fish Port remains a key seafood trading hub for Western Visayas and parts of Mindanao.IMT
