Another remarkable feat was made by Jiu-jitsu world champion Kimberly Anne Custodio as she achieved a golden debut in the Southeast Asian Games, ruling the women’s ne-waza 48kg class in Thailand.
Custodio, a pride of Oton, Iloilo, defeated home bet Sugun Nutchaya in the finals for a successful return to Thailand, where she captured her third title in the Jiu-Jitsu International Federation World Championships just a month ago.
It was also a stellar SEA Games debut for Custodio, who still got the job done despite moving up in weight from her usual 45kg class.
“It’s honestly overwhelming. It feels like every sacrifice, every early morning, every injury, every moment I doubted myself all of it led to this one feeling,” she said.
“I’m proud, but more than that, I’m grateful. Grateful for the people who believed in me, for the sport that changed my life, and for the chance to represent my country on this stage,” Custodio added.
With the victory, the Ilongga star thanked all the people who supported her journey until she bagged the gold medal for the country.IMT NEWS
