A 24-year-old Ilonggo seafarer was among the four fatalities in the capsizing of carrier vessel MV Hong Hai 16 in Barangay Malawaan, Rizal, Occidental Mindoro on Holy Tuesday, April 15.
The lifeless body of Mark Dave Calopez, a resident of Leon town in Iloilo province, was recovered by the Philippine Coast Guard’s (PCG) Special Operations Unit on Thursday morning, April 17.
The ill-fated vessel, which was carrying 2,000 liters of lube oil and 30,000 liters of diese, had a total 25 crew members (13 Filipinos and 12 Chinese nationals).
“The total number of survivors remains at 14, while seven crew members are still missing,” according to the PCG.
“In partnership with all stakeholders, the PCG is exhausting all efforts to locate and rescue the missing individuals onboard as its foremost objective,” it said. IMT
