In a unanimous decision, the Supreme Court (SC) has ruled that the impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte is “unconstitutional.”

Two justices did not participate in the vote: Justice Alfredo Benjamin Caguioa, who inhibited himself, and Justice Maria Filomena Singh, who was on leave.

According to Court spokesperson Camille Ting, the justices found that the complaint violated the one-year ban on initiating impeachment complaints, as earlier complaints had already been filed.

Ting clarified, however, that the ruling does not absolve the vice president of any wrongdoing. She emphasized that another complaint may still be filed until February 2026.

“There is a right way to do the right thing at the right time. This is what the Rule of Just Law means. This is what fairness or due process of law means, even for impeachment,” the decision read.IMT
