The punong barangay of Canawili, Janiuay, Iloilo, was arrested in a buy-bust operation conducted by the Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit (PDEU) and the town’s police station on Wednesday, Jan. 7.
The suspect, identified only as alias “Jun-Jun,” 51, is listed as a high-value individual (HVI) under the drug watchlist.
Seized during the operation were 410 grams of shabu worth P2.7 million, and 8.2 grams of marijuana with an estimated value of P4,100.
The arrested suspect will face charges for violating Republic Act 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002).
Police Brigadier General Josefino D. Ligan, Police Regional Office (PRO-6) director, said the arrest underscored that the law applies to everyone, regardless of position.
“This operation sends a clear message that no one is above the law. Public officials are expected to be models of integrity, and we will act decisively against anyone who betrays public trust,” he said.
“PRO-6 remains steadfast in its campaign against illegal drugs to protect our communities, ensure a safe and peaceful, and drug-free environment for the people of Western Visayas,” Ligan added.IMT
