Senator Raffy Tulfo has asked Japan to open more job opportunities for Filipino nurses and transport workers during a bilateral meeting with Japanese delegation head Hon. Fujii Kazuhiro at the 151st Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland.
Tulfo, chair of the Senate Committee on Migrant Workers, thanked Japan for treating the 50,706 overseas Filipino workers there well.
The senator said hiring more Filipino nurses would help Japan care for its aging population, pledging to work with the Department of Migrant Workers to facilitate recruitment.
Hon. Kazuhiro welcomed the proposal, saying Japan is ready to accept more Filipino nurses and train them in advanced patient care.
As chair of the Senate Committee on Public Services, Tulfo also lauded Japan’s support for key transport projects in the Philippines, such as the North-South Commuter Railway and Metro Manila Subway.
He suggested that Japan consider hiring Filipino transport workers to help address its manpower shortage.
Both sides agreed to strengthen cooperation on future initiatives benefiting Filipino workers and public transport development.IMT
