Football players and sports fans can soon look forward to a brighter La Paz Football Ground in Iloilo City as the lighting project nears completion, promising an upgraded venue for night games and training.

The P17.3-million project, spearheaded by Panay Energy Development Corporation and One Meralco Foundation in partnership with the Iloilo City Government, is now 75 percent complete and set for turnover on September 30.

Mayor Raisa Treñas said the initiative complements the city’s ongoing plaza redevelopment and boosts both sports activities and sports tourism.

“Lighting up the La Paz football field not only supports athletes but also strengthens our push for a more vibrant and inclusive sports culture,” she noted.

The La Paz football field is among Iloilo’s premier sports venues, hosting major local and regional tournaments.

With the installation of 40 imported football lights that meet international standards, athletes will soon enjoy safer and more competitive play even after dark.

Once fully operational by October, the lighting project is expected to transform La Paz Plaza into a hub for community recreation, training, and professional-level competition, raising the city’s profile as a destination for sports tourism.IMT
