A village official in Lambunao, Iloilo, was arrested in a buy-bust operation conducted by the town’s police station.

The suspect, identified only as alias “Junjun”, 51, and a barangay kagawad of Jayobo, was apprehended after allegedly selling one sachet of shabu to a police poseur-buyer.

Junjun, who is considered a high-value individual (HVI) in the illegal drug trade, yielded approximately 160 grams of suspected shabu.

Operatives also recovered three additional sachets of suspected illegal drugs, the marked buy-bust money, and other non-drug items from the suspect’s possession

The operation, conducted on Monday afternoon, Dec. 29, was carried out with the support of the Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit Team 2.

The suspect is currently under police custody and will face charges for violations of Sections 5 and 11 of Republic Act No. 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

In a statement, Police Brigadier General Josefino Ligan, Police Regional Office (PRO-6) director, emphasized that sustained anti-illegal drug operations remain crucial in protecting communities from the harmful effects of illegal drugs.

“Illegal drugs continue to destroy families and disrupt communities, and this successful operation reflects our firm resolve to hold accountable those who endanger public safety,” he said.IMT
