The Land Transportation Office (LTO-6) has issued a show cause order (SCO) against the operator of a passenger bus that figured in a road crash in Barangay Maribong, Lambunao, Iloilo, on Feb. 14.

The SCO, approved by LTO-6 Regional Director Atty. Gaudioso P. Geduspan II, compelled Calinog Bus Line (CBL) to “submit within five non-extendible working days a written explanation from the driver, personally signed and endorsed by management.

The statement, according to the LTO-6, “must detail the events before and after the crash, including the driver’s actions to safeguard passengers, adherence to standard operating procedures, and assessment of the vehicle’s condition prior to departure.”

The agency also directed CBL to “file a formal company assessment of the incident, outline immediate remedial measures taken, submit a clear copy of the driver’s valid professional license for verification, and present corrective steps to prevent similar accidents.”

“As the operator, Calinog Bus Lines is administratively accountable for the maintenance and safe operation of its units under existing transportation laws,” the LTO-6 said.

Based on police investigation, the the Tapaz, Capiz-bound bus lost control and hit two motorcycles and a tricycle before overturning and sideswiping additional vehicles.

More than 40 passengers were reportedly hurt in the incident.IMT
