President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has declared a state of national energy emergency due to the Middle East conflict threatening global oil supply and prices.

The Executive Order cited conflicts involving the US, Israel, and Iran, and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a key oil route, raising fears of fuel shortages.

Under the Unified Package for Livelihoods, Industry, Food, and Transport  program, government agencies are mobilized.

The Department of Energy will secure fuel supply, enforce conservation measures, and act against hoarding and profiteering.

The Department of Transportation will provide fuel and fare subsidies, expand public transport services, and review possible reductions in toll and aviation fees to ease costs.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development will fast-track assistance to affected sectors, while the Department of Agriculture will ensure food supply and support farmers and fisherfolk.

The Department of Migrant Workers will assist distressed OFWs, and the Department of Trade and Industry will monitor prices and support small businesses.

Local government units are urged to help implement the measures.

The emergency will last for one year unless lifted earlier.IMT
