President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Wednesday, Aug. 13, led the inauguration of the rehabilitated Philippine Fisheries Development Authority–Iloilo Fish Port Complex (PFDA-IFPC) in Barangay Baybay Tanza, Iloilo City, highlighting his administration’s push to strengthen the fisheries and agriculture sectors.
Marcos Jr. said the upgrades aim to lower production and transport costs, improve product handling, and ensure more value stays with fisherfolk and farmers.
Funded through a multi-year national subsidy, the port now features a larger market hall, cold storage, commercial and administration buildings, and public toilets, all powered by 1,152 solar panels for sustainability.
The facility is also disaster-resilient, with a new breakwater to protect against strong waves. The President noted that solar power will reduce dependence on diesel generators for ice plants and other operations.
During the event, Marcos Jr. turned over P37 million worth of farm and fishing equipment, including tractors, corn shellers, rice mills, harvesters, and fiberglass boats.
The PFDA-IFPC serves as a major fisheries hub for Western Visayas and parts of Mindanao.IMT
