The country’s next leader must have a strong grasp of economics to create jobs, control inflation, and ensure stable food supply, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said.

Speaking at the ASEAN Editors and Economic Opinion Leaders Forum in Makati City, Marcos Jr. said economic understanding is key to sustaining growth and improving productivity through better education, healthcare, and pro-worker policies.

“We are about nation-building. I didn’t hear that anymore. So we need to have nation builders, people who want to make the Philippines better. People who actually love the Philippines and love Filipinos and want to make things better,” he stressed.

The President said top leadership also requires experience, credibility, and public trust.

While he is considering possible successors, he declined to name anyone, saying, “Timing is everything.”IMT
