President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has directed the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) to eliminate online scams during the Christmas season, alongside efforts to fight fake news.

DICT Secretary Henry Aguda said the President wants Filipinos to feel safe making online and credit card transactions this holiday season. To meet this goal, the DICT has partnered with the Global Anti-Scam Alliance, Globe Telecom, and other telcos.

Aguda added that the agency is also working with social media platforms to improve content moderation tailored to the Philippine context.

The Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center will lead the campaign against fake news and deepfakes.

The initiative involves cooperation among several agencies, including the Department of Budget and Management, Department of Social Welfare and Development, Bureau of Customs, and the Department of Public Works and Highways.IMT
