Malacañang announced that the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Department of Education (DepEd), and local government units (LGUs) will work together to fast-track the construction of classrooms nationwide.
Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said the partnership follows President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to give direct funding to LGUs to help solve the classroom shortage.
A memorandum of agreement among the DPWH, DepEd, and LGUs will formalize the collaboration. Under the plan, funds will be downloaded to LGUs for implementation, while the DPWH and DepEd will supervise and monitor the projects.
Castro said Marcos Jr. wants the classroom shortage resolved as soon as possible. “Hindi puwede ang mabagal kumilos, iyan ang direktiba ng Pangulo,” she said.
The joint effort aims to complete around 2,370 classrooms. The DPWH targets to finish 200 classrooms before the end of the year, 2,000 by the third quarter of next year, and 822 by the second quarter of 2026.IMT
