President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has ordered lifestyle checks on government officials as part of the crackdown on alleged anomalies in flood control projects, Malacañang said Wednesday, Aug. 27.

Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary Claire Castro said the President stressed the need for continuous scrutiny of Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) records to identify questionable projects.

So far, Marcos Jr. has inspected 11 flood control projects in Marikina, Iloilo, Bulacan, and Benguet after complaints were filed through sumbongsapangulo.ph. As of August 27, at least 9,020 reports on flood control projects have been received.

The directive also tasks oversight agencies, including the Commission on Audit, Bureau of Internal Revenue, Bureau of Customs, and local governments, to strengthen their investigations. The Office of the Ombudsman, BIR, and DPWH may also conduct lifestyle checks within their jurisdictions.

Castro clarified the checks will first cover DPWH officials linked to irregular projects but may extend to others. The Palace also urged the public to keep reporting suspicious projects to aid the anti-corruption drive.IMT
