President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has ordered a nationwide transport assistance package starting April 15, aiming to blunt the impact of rising fuel costs on commuters and drivers.

The program includes subsidized fares, fuel discounts, and payments to operators under the Department of Transportation Service Contracting Program.

“Kaya naman simula April 15, ipapatupad ng DOTr ang Service Contracting Program,” said Marcos Jr.

Drivers and operators will receive between P40 and P100 per kilometer, on top of regular fare income, while commuters get at least a 20% fare discount on selected routes.

The plan will initially roll out in Metro Manila before expanding nationwide, targeting about 50,000 public utility vehicles and up to 15 million passengers.

A fuel subsidy worth P10 per liter, capped at 150 liters per week for three months, will also be granted to qualified PUVs as part of the government’s effort to contain transport and food costs.IMT
