Iloilo Business Park (IBP), Megaworld’s 72-hectare township in Mandurriao district, has been officially declared as Iloilo City’s Center of Arts and Culture.
The declaration was made through Executive Order (EO) No. 021 issued by the new mayor of the city, Raisa Treñas.
This is “in recognition of the continuing efforts, initiatives, and overwhelming support in providing avenues for arftistic expression, collaborations of different artists leaving a legacy to the local culture, arts, ag heritage scene in he City of Iloilo,” according to Treñas.
IBP is home to the Iloilo Museum of Contemporay Art (ILOMOCA), Emperador Museum and the Iloilo Convention Center (ICON).
“[IBP’s] long-term commitment has supported the culture and arts in the [city], in Western Visayas, and beyond he geographical space of the region providing avenues for artistic expression, collaborations of different artists leaving a legacy for the local culturel, arts, and heritage scene in the [city],” the EO stated.
In an official statement, Megaworld Corporation president and chief executive officer Lourdes Gutierrez Alfonso thanked the city government for the declaration.
“For many years since we establish IBP, we have long envisioned it as a canvas that celebrates the Ilonggos’ deep-rooted passion for creative passion, capitalizing on the vibrancy of the Ilonggo arts and culture in bringing our developments to life,” said Alfonso.
“Even during the time of Jerry Treñas as Chief Executive of the city, we have been on the forefront of implementing programs, building, structures, and providing avenues for events and activities that, the city government cited, highlight ‘artistics expressions and collaborations, of different artists’ that influenced the growth of the local culture, arts, and heritage scene in the city,” she further said.
Alfonso assured that Megaworld will “remain committed” to its advocacy, saying that they are “one with the Ilonggos towards the goal of helping boost their artistic and cultural identity as well as the city’s booming tourism industry.” IMT
