More Electric and Power Corp. (MORE Power) is spending P2 billion for the expansion of its power distribution services to several areas in the province of Iloilo.

Republic Act 11918 granted MORE Power to expand its franchise to Passi City and 15 towns, which are currently served by Iloilo Electric Cooperative (ILECO) I, II, and III.

The 15 towns are Alimodian, Leganes, Leon, New Lucena, Pavia, San Miguel, Santa Barbara, Zarraga, Anilao, Banate, Barotac Nuevo, Dingle, Dueñas, Dumangas and San Enrique.

The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) recently granted the Iloilo City-based power firm a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity (CPCN) for its expanded franchise areas.

MORE Power president Roel Castro said they already started discussing their plans with the local government (LGUs) units within their expanded coverage.

“What we are bringing to the consumers of the Second and Fourth Districts is the kind of service that we are giving each and everyone here in [Iloilo City]. The rates are lower, customer service response is faster,” he assured.

Castro said the University of St. La Salle (USLS) campus in Barangay Mali-ao, Pavia will be their first customer outside the city.

“This is our first client in the expansion area, and it is very historic because this is the first time in the Philippines that an overlapping franchise has been implemented,” he told reporters during a press conference.

“Our objective is to bring better service to more consumers,” he continued.IMT
