MPIW expands partnerships with subdivisions, signs deal with Philippine Estates Corp.
(L-R) Commercial Business Area Head 2 Kathleen Sadio-Guilermo, MPIW Chief Oeprating Officer Angelo David C. Berba and Glenn Gerald D. Pantig, Chief Operating Officer of Philippine Estates Corporation inked a Memorandum of Agreement to provide water supply for the latter’s residential development, Wellford Homes in Balabago, Jaro District marking another milestone in MPIW’s growing partnerships with subdivisions and estate developers across Iloilo.

Metro Pacific Iloilo Water, Inc. (MPIW), the joint venture company of Metro Pacific Water and the Metro Iloilo Water District (MIWD), has inked a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with Philippine Estates Corporation for its residential development, Wellford Homes Jaro, marking another milestone in MPIW’s growing partnerships with subdivisions and estate developers across Iloilo.

Under the agreement, the water distribution system of Wellford Homes Jaro will be formally turned over to MIWD, with operations, management, and maintenance entrusted to MPIW. This ensures residents will benefit from safe and reliable water services aligned with the Philippine National Standards for Drinking Water (PNSDW) issued by the Department of Health.

For years, residents of subdivisions and housing developments sourced their water from several deep wells operated by the developers, or from expensive raw water tanker deliveries from a private water supplier, which charges an average of Php 180-300 per cubic meter compared to the Php 20 per cubic meter offered by MPIW. Prolonged use of deep wells can drain underground aquifers and pose threats to the environment and health.

Once the technical evaluation is completed, MPIW will be able to provide nearly 500 customers of Well Ford Homes with potable water 24 hours a day, 7 days ensuring safe and quality water. The partnership is also expected to eliminate the use of deep wells, which pose risks of aquifer depletion and potential water contamination, causing Acute Gastro-Enteritis. This is in full alignment with the National Water Resources Board’s (NWRB) strict regulation and aligns with the strict permitting controls of groundwater extraction — a policy that MPIW fully supports.

“This partnership reflects our strong commitment to bringing safe and reliable water access in Iloilo,” said Angelo David C. Berba, MPIW Chief Operating Officer. “We have been partnering with multiple subdivisions and many estate developers in Iloilo, and this agreement with Philippine Estates Corporation further strengthens our role as the trusted water provider for growing communities. More collaborations are underway as we continue to expand and modernize our water distribution system.”

MPIW now has an existing partnership with over 230 subdivisions providing water supply to more than 42,000 connections, with more partnerships currently in advanced negotiations and water infrastructure access planning.

The Wellford Homes Jaro agreement is part of MPIW’s broader strategy to integrate more residential developments into Iloilo’s sustainable water network. Beyond current partnerships, MPIW is also gearing up for the province’s first large-scale desalination plant, a groundbreaking project that will provide a new, climate-resilient water source to ensure Iloilo’s water security amid rapid urban growth and climate change. The Php 5.5 billion plant is expected to come online by the end of 2027, and its primary beneficiary is Iloilo City.

Glenn Gerald D. Pantig, Chief Operating Officer of Philippine Estates Corporation, highlighted the importance of the collaboration. “Through this partnership with MPIW, we are guaranteeing our homeowners a professionally managed water system that ensures long-term reliability. We are proud to align with MPIW’s mission of safe and reliable water service for Iloilo.”

With this new partnership, MPIW continues to build a robust network of subdivision collaborations, ensuring that water service delivery evolves with the demands of Iloilo’s fast-growing communities. As Iloilo advances toward a future shaped by economic growth and urban development, MPIW stands ready — delivering innovation, sustainability, and resilience in water service
