The number of confirmed mpox cases in Iloilo City has gone up to four, according to the City Health Office (CHO).
CHO head Dr. Mary Ann Diaz announced the additional confirmed cases during a press conference on Monday, June 2.
She said they have logged a total of six mpox cases and four of them tested positive through laboratory confirmation.
“We are still investigating the proper definition of what qualifies as community transmission,” she added.
The patients, who are all adults, “are currently isolated and in stable condition,” according to Diaz.
She also noted that one of the patients has travel history within the country.
Mpox is a “viral infection that spreads through close contact.” Its symptoms include fever, intense headaches, muscle aches, back pain, low energy, swollen lymph nodes, and characteristic skin rashes.
Diaz appealed for the public’s cooperation by “remaining vigilant, seeking early medical consultation, and reporting symptoms accurately and honestly.”
To prevent the further spread of mpox, she urged everyone to “practice frequent handwashing, wear face masks, wear long-sleeved clothing, avoid crowded places when possible, and travel safely and mindfully.”IMT
