Nearly 40,000 registered voters in Iloilo City have been removed from the official voters’ list after failing to vote in two consecutive elections or due to death, according to the Commission on Elections (COMELEC).

Lawyer Pinky Tentativa, Election Officer of Iloilo City COMELEC, said the latest Election Registration Board (ERB) hearing approved the delisting, bringing the total number of registered voters down to 330,336—lower than the 330,621 recorded as of May 2025.

Despite the removals, COMELEC is seeing a steady influx of new registrants.

During the previous voter registration period from October 20 to December 30, 2025, the office processed 5,614 applications.

Tentativa expects the numbers to rise further as the current voter registration period—set to run until May 18, 2026—continues.

From January 5 to February 21 alone, nearly 7,000 new applications have already been processed.

With thousands of new applicants entering the system, election officials anticipate that the city’s voter base will rebound in time for the next polls, even as routine cleansing of the registry continues to ensure accuracy and integrity.IMT
