More than 2.2 million individuals in the province of Iloilo have already been enrolled in the national ID system, according to the Provincial Statistical Office (PSO).

As of June 26 this year, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) has registered a total of 2,240,752 Iloilo residents for the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys).

The number, according to PSO officer-in-charge Jerry Dolutan, represents about 90 percent of the province’s 2.5 million population based on the 2020 Census of Population and Housing.

He said their inclusive and comprehensive registration spans across all age groups, including the youngest members of the population.

Children aged 0 to 4 years old accounted for nearly 32 thousand of the registered  residents, Dolutan noted.

Dolutan urged those who have yet to register to visit the nearest registration center or coordinate with their barangay officials to find out when mobile registration activities will be held in their areas.

The activities aim to reach people in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas (GIDAs)
PSA also holds house-to-house registration activities to accommodate senior citizens, persons with disabilities (PWDs), and individuals with mobility limitations.

For walk-in clients, registration centers at the PSA Iloilo Provincial Office on Iznart Street and at SM City Iloilo in Mandurriao district, Iloilo City are operational from Monday to Saturday.

The establishment of the national ID system aims to “make services more accessible, reduce fraud, and promote trust in digital services.”

Under the PhilSys Act, applying for a national ID is not mandatory, but Filipinos who decided not to get one will face the burden of securing multiple IDs for government and business transactions. IMT
