About 90 percent of the total population of the city and province of Iloilo have so far registered for the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) or national ID, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).

Iloilo Supervising Statistical Specialist Jerry Dolutan said a total of 2,292,751 residents, as of February this year, are already PhilSys-registered, leaving only 260,000 unaccounted for.

In the first three months of the year, 2,620 senior citizens and 1,574 children aged zero to four years old were able to register, data from the PSA showed.

Dolutan urged those who have not yet registered to visit their mobile registration sites and avail of national ID services.

“For our deployment, we ensure that we have teams in every congressional district. We coordinate their schedules with the help of our LGUs (local government units),” he said.

According to Dolutan, more than 1.7 million national ID cards have been released; 863,183 paper-based IDs have been issued; and 17,574 electronic IDs have been printed.

The national ID registration is pursuant to Republic Act 11055 or the Philippine Identification System Act, which mandates a single official ID to “promote the efficient delivery of services and to lessen corruption and red tape in the government.”IMT
