Farmers and indigenous community members in Alimodian’s upland villages now have easier access to markets and essential services with the completion of the ₱52.7-million Cabacanan Bridge.

Spanning 60 meters, the pre-stressed concrete girder bridge links barangays across 345 hectares of agricultural zones, directly benefiting more than 3,500 residents.

For Alimodian, known as the “Vegetable Capital of Iloilo,” the bridge is more than infrastructure—it is a lifeline that helps ensure fresh produce reaches wider markets faster and in better condition.

“This bridge symbolizes the unity and perseverance of our people and leaders, past and present. It is a dream come true for the Seven Cities,” said Mayor Ian Kenneth Alfeche, noting that the structure fulfills a long-awaited demand of upland residents.

Provincial Engineer Romeo Andig explained that while the bridge was substantially completed in December 2024, finishing corrections extended construction until May 2025.

“Life is much easier now,” said Roger, a volunteer and resident of Brgy. Cabacanan. “Before, crossing the river was very difficult. Now, with the bridge, it’s safer and more convenient.”

The bridge was funded under the Philippine Rural Development Project (PRDP) in partnership with the Iloilo Provincial Government and the local government unit.

Alongside the bridge, a newly completed multi-purpose covered gym was also turned over to the community, providing residents with a venue for sports, social gatherings, and emergency use during calamities.

Together, these projects are expected to boost mobility, improve economic opportunities, and enhance the quality of life in Alimodian’s upland villages.IMT
