A labor group is pushing for an increase of P200 in the daily minimum wage of private sector workers in Western Visayas.

United Labor-Panay recently filed a wage hike petition before the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB-6).

The petition is seeking to raise the daily take-home pay of minimum wage earners in the region to P713 from P513.

United Labor–Panay Representative Elmer Forro said the current rate no longer meets the constitutional guarantee of a living wage.

“For a family to live decently today, the daily cost of living should be over P1,000,” according to Forro.

“Our minimum wage is P513, but due to inflation, its real value has dropped to P 408,” he added.

The RTWPB-6 is set to deliberate the petition for wage hike on Oct. 23.IMT
