Malacañang supports public consultation on the Department of Education (DepEd) proposal to shift to a trimester system for Kindergarten to Grade 12.

Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary Claire Castro said the plan is still under study, stressing the need to hear all stakeholders.

“Ito ay proposal pa lamang… mas mainam na mas maagarang pag-aaral ang gawin kung dapat itong i-implement,” she said.

Education Secretary Sonny Angara earlier cited findings of Second Congressional Commission on Education, saying a trimester setup would allow longer, more flexible teaching periods, ease teacher workload, and improve lesson pacing and instruction quality.

Under the proposed trimester system, the school year will be divided into three academic terms, which will provide teachers with longer uninterrupted teaching periods and better lesson pacing. IMT
