President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. is not involved in the impeachment case against Vice President Sara Duterte, Malacañang said Wednesday, May 14.

“Wala pong anumang balita patungkol sa pag-pursue ng Pangulo sa impeachment, o sa impeachment trial ni VP Sara. So, iyan po ay ating tinututulan at pinasisinungalingan po,” Castro said in a Palace press briefing.

She responded to questions about whether Marcos Jr. is confident the impeachment will move forward, given that most of the newly elected senators were endorsed by the administration.

“Wala pong sinasabing anumang pagkumpiyansa na para mapatalsik o matanggal sa puwesto ang Bise Presidente,” according to her.

Last Ferbruary, the President made it clear that the executive branch has no role in impeachment proceedings. “Walang role ang executive sa impeachment,” he stressed.

Under the 1987 Constitution, impeachment is solely a function of Congress. The House of Representatives initiates all impeachment cases, while the Senate tries and decides them.

It is a process handled entirely by the legislative branch, which is separate and co-equal with the executive.IMT
