Malacañang has warned of legal action vs peddlers of false information exploiting the country’s energy situation, stressing zero tolerance as disinformation threatens public trust, economy, and stability.

PCO Acting Secretary Dave Gomez calls on the public to rely on official briefings and verified updates, urging caution in sharing posts online.

“Stop and think before you post or hit ‘share’… always verify information through official government channels,” Gomez says.

Authorities warn of up to six months’ jail under the Revised Penal Code, with stiffer penalties for online offenses, as government intensifies monitoring and prepares charges vs offenders.

Gomez stresses deliberate fake news “undermines public trust” and vows firm action, with an anti-fake-news desk coordinating with the Department of Justice.

He also assured of transparent and timely energy updates, calling on Filipinos to reject disinformation and stay united.IMT
