Malacañang has confirmed that the Department of Transportation (DOTr) has held talks with Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific on lowering domestic airfares, particularly for routes such as Siargao.
DOTr Secretary Giovanni Lopez reported that both airlines agreed to reduce ticket prices, according to Palace Press Officer Claire Castro.
She noted that airfare levels are affected by the use of smaller aircraft with fewer passengers but similar operating costs, as well as fluctuating fuel prices.
Castro added that the Civil Aeronautics Board continues to remind airlines to reduce fuel surcharges when fuel costs go down, a move seen to help boost domestic tourism.
“‘Yan ang ginagawa ng DOTr para mas gumanda pa ang turismo sa ating bansa pagdating sa isyu ng airfare,” shed noted.IMT
