Malacañang assured the public on Wednesday, June 18, that government agencies are actively working together to mitigate the impacts of the rainy season and safeguard communities from flooding and other weather-related hazards.

In a Palace briefing, Presidential Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro said the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) continues to implement flood control projects across the country, following President Marcos’ directive to strengthen disaster resilience.

“Asahan po natin at maging lagi tayong handa sa pagbaha. Although hindi natin masasabing 100 percent agad na mababawasan ang pagbaha sa ating bansa, pero patuloy pa rin po ang pagsasagawa ng DPWH para po maibsan ang problema dito,” she said.

Among the completed initiatives is a concrete slope protection structure along the Bagac–Mariveles Road in Bataan, aimed at preventing landslides and erosion. The DPWH has also crafted tailored master plans for 18 major river basins to address site-specific risks.

To boost preparedness, the Department of Science and Technology’s PAGASA launched its campaign “Kahandaan sa Bagyo at Baha, Solusyon sa Ligtas na Bayan” in line with Typhoon and Flood Awareness Week. PAGASA also upgraded its PANaHON interactive platform and centralized alert system to improve access to real-time weather updates.

The Department of Agrucultue assured the public of stable rice supplies and ongoing efforts to protect food production amid extreme weather. Meanwhile, the Department of Social Welfare and Development is ready to deploy feeding programs in affected areas.

Health precautions are also in place. The Department of Health has rolled out its rainy season campaigns—“Taob, Taktak, Tuyo, at Takip” and “Alas Kwatro Kontra Mosquito”—to prevent disease outbreaks. The Palace emphasized that this coordinated response reflects the administration’s commitment to public safety.IMT
