Malacañang on Wednesday, Feb. 18, stressed that those spreading fake news must face legal consequences.

Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said the law must be enforced against violators, following the appearance before the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) of a vlogger accused of spreading a fabricated medical record about President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.

Castro said creating and sharing false information is not a joke, especially if it harms a person and misleads the public.

She added that an apology is not enough and that fake news must be fought.

The Palace will leave it to the courts to decide the fate of those involved, Castro said, noting that those accused may defend themselves.

Castro also confirmed that the NBI has filed cases against individuals behind the disinformation on the President’s health.IMT
