Malacañang assured the public that flood control projects nationwide will proceed despite budget adjustments in the proposed 2026 national budget.

In a Monday (Sept. 29) briefing, Palace spokesperson Claire Castro said the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) reassessed its 2026 allocations, removing some projects to create “fiscal space” for the P255.5 billion earmarked for flood control, as announced by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

She added that contractors remain liable for projects already funded but unfinished.

During a visit to Gonzaga, Cagayan, Marcos Jr. reassured residents that ongoing and new flood control projects will continue, noting that the 2025 budget for such projects still exceeds P300 billion.

New projects, he added, will be approved if proposals, work plans, and completion schedules meet strict guidelines and gain local government acceptance.IMT
