Malacañang has reminded Sen. Robin Padilla that his proposal for mandatory drug testing of all government personnel, including the President, violates a Supreme Court ruling.

Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary Claire Castro said only random drug testing is allowed, citing the Court’s 2008 decision declaring universal drug testing unconstitutional for infringing on privacy rights.

“Baka magsayang lang po ng oras at pera o pondo si Senator Robin Padilla. Aralin po muna niya po ang nais niyang gawing batas,” said Castro.

Padilla recently filed Senate Bill No. 1200 seeking annual drug tests for all officials using hair follicle and urine tests.

The filing came the same day his political affairs officer, Nadia Montenegro, resigned after being accused of marijuana use inside the Senate, an allegation she denied.IMT
