Malacañang has urged lawmakers to fast-track deliberations on the proposed 2026 national budget to prevent the government from operating under a reenacted budget.

PCO Undersecretary Claire Castro said President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. wants the budget passed on time despite the tight schedule.

“Ayaw ng Pangulo ng reenacted budget, alam po natin iyan. So, hangga’t maaari bilisan natin. Kahit kapos ang panahon, sana po mas mapabilis natin,” according to her.

Senate finance panel chair Sherwin Gatchalian earlier said the chamber is still on track to approve the 2026 GAA despite last weekend’s fire at the Senate building.

The proposed budget is now in the period of amendments, with final reading set for December 9.

The Senate will have a week to prepare for the bicam with the House to reconcile their versions of next year’s spending plan.IMT
