Malacañang has assured the public that a credible and trustworthy replacement will be appointed as National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) chief following the resignation of Director Jaime Santiago.

Presidential Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro confirmed that Santiago’s irrevocable resignation is now “for acceptance” by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. Santiago earlier claimed he was the target of an “orchestrated move to blacken his reputation.”

Castro stressed the NBI’s work, including high-profile cases like the missing “sabungeros,” will continue without disruption. She added no shortlist has been submitted yet for Santiago’s successor.

Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla likewise said no replacement, even in an acting capacity, has been named so far.IMT
