Malacañang has assured the public that the government will enforce strict oversight of the 2026 national budget, with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ready to veto any irregular or questionable spending.
Palace spokesperson Claire Castro said the move aims to prevent anomalies after the 2025 budget faced allegations of corruption, including ghost and substandard flood control projects.
“Sinabi po ng Pangulo even before, na kung mayroon mang magkakamali o magiging anomalyang muli ang gagawin na budget sa 2026, iyan po ay kaniyang ibi-veto,” she said, assuring citizens of proper budget management.
Marcos Jr. earlier announced that the P255.5 billion allocated for cancelled 2026 flood control projects will be realigned to priority programs in education, health, agriculture, social services, ICT, labor, and energy.IMT
