The Iloilo Provincial Government has set its sights on transforming Pan de Azucar Island into Iloilo’s next eco-tourism gem, launching a full-scale scoping mission under its “Turista sa Barangay” program.
Led by Provincial Tourism Officer Bombette Marin, the core team—composed of experts from nine provincial offices—descended on Barangay Tambaliza, Concepcion on August 8 to conduct a sweeping assessment of the island’s economic, environmental, social, and governance profile.
The evaluation covered the island’s three barangays—Tambaliza, Macatunao, and Taloto-an—identifying both untapped tourism potential and urgent challenges requiring provincial intervention.
Marin called on local leaders and residents to unite behind the island’s transformation, stressing the long-term economic gains and the need to protect its unique biodiversity.
Pan de Azucar, famed for Mt. Manaphag, the Lumpatan rock formation, pristine beaches, and rich diving spots, is being positioned as a showcase for sustainable, community-based tourism in line with Governor Arthur Defensor Jr.’s vision.IMT
