The Liberal Party (LP) vowed to expel any member proven guilty of corruption, Senator Francis Pangilinan announced.
“Maglilinis tayo ng ating hanay. Patatalsikin natin ang sinumang miyembro — gaano man kataas ang katungkulan o kalakas — na matuklasang nakinabang sa pandarambong o lumahok sa katiwalian,” Pangilinan said during the fellowship “Kung Walang Korap, Walang Mahirap.”
He added that the party’s cleansing would start with transparency, requiring all LP officials to publicly release their Statements of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth (SALN).
As an example, Pangilinan and Rep. Leila de Lima of Mamamayang Liberal (ML) Partylist voluntarily disclosed their own SALNs during the event.
De Lima said liberal democrats worldwide share one belief—that “power gains legitimacy only when it serves the people.” She also lauded renewed public outrage against corruption.
The fellowship, organized by LP and ML, honored the reform legacy of the late President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III and called on Filipinos to reclaim government from greed.
LP Secretary General Kit Belmonte said the party, turning 80 in January, remains committed to reform.
“Galit na ang Pilipino. Sumobra na ang kurakot,” he said. “Ipaglaban natin ang ating mga kababayan.”IMT
