Laughter, applause, and wide smiles filled the theater as Pavia officially launched its “Libre Sine” program, a monthly initiative granting senior citizens free access to movie screenings designed to entertain, engage, and honor the town’s elderly residents.

The program is anchored in Municipal Ordinance No. 2024-46, principally authored by Sangguniang Bayan Member JP Peñol and ratified by the Pavia Municipal Council.

It formally kicked off on February 23, following the signing of a memorandum of agreement between Mayor Luigi Gorriceta and Robinsons Land Corporation, securing both the venue and necessary resources.

Under Libre Sine, senior citizens can enjoy free admission every Tuesday—limited to the first screening of the day, with up to four screenings per month.

Each session accommodates 50 seniors on a first-come, first-served basis, ensuring organized access while allowing as many beneficiaries as possible to participate.

The Office of Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA), led by Judy Hollero, is distributing Free Movie Booklets to all eligible seniors.

The booklets serve as guides for the schedule and proof of eligibility, helping streamline the program and prevent overcrowding.

Mayor Gorriceta emphasized that the program goes beyond entertainment.

For many residents, the screenings are more than a chance to watch the latest films—they are an opportunity to reconnect with friends, share stories, and actively participate in community life.

Councilor Peñol, the ordinance’s author, noted that such initiatives reinforce Pavia’s commitment to uplifting the lives of its elderly population.

“Our seniors deserve opportunities to enjoy life, remain engaged, and feel valued. Libre Sine is just one way to show our appreciation,” he said.

With the partnership between the municipal government and Robinsons Land Corporation, local officials aim to sustain the program long-term and potentially expand screenings or venues to reach more of Pavia’s senior population.

The Libre Sine launch marks a milestone in promoting recreation, social inclusivity, and the well-being of senior citizens, setting an example for municipalities across Iloilo and beyond.IMT
