President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. rejected claims that the Philippines is a training hotspot for terrorism, calling them misleading and unacceptable, as he stressed that security forces have long dismantled terrorist networks and secured communities.
Speaking at the AFP’s 90th anniversary at Camp Aguinaldo, Marcos Jr. vowed to further strengthen the military’s capability, credibility, and readiness to deter threats and safeguard peace, saying deceptive narratives will not weaken the country’s resolve.
He also honored awardees for heroism and service, and reaffirmed his commitment to properly equip and compensate AFP personnel, citing Executive Order No. 107 that updates the base pay of military and uniformed personnel starting January 2026, with increases through 2028.
“This can be just one of the many ways that we show our gratitude for the service that you have rendered to our country,” according to him.
The AFP was established in 1935, with roots tracing back to the Philippine Revolutionary Army and the Philippine Constabulary.IMT
