President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has designated a new economic zone in Mandurriao district, Iloilo City, to boost investments and generate jobs.

The designation, recommended by the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA), was made through Proclamation No. 1128 signed by Executive Secretary Ralph Recto by authority of the President.

The proclamation created and designated parcels of land along Donato Pison Avenue in Barangay San Rafael as a new information technology park to be known as Atria Gardens.

The economic zone spans 48,569 meters and was established under Republic Act (RA) No. 7916, or the “Special Economic Zone Act of 1995,” as amended by RA No. 8748 enacted in 1999.

RA 7916 defines special economic zones as “select areas with highly developed or which have the potential to be developed into agro-industrial, industrial, tourist/recreational, commercial, banking, investment and financial centers.”IMT
