President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. led the launch of DepEd’s Project Accelerating Governance and Adaptive Pedagogy through Artificial Intelligence (AGAP.AI), which will integrate AI learning and training in basic education.

Speaking at Quezon City Science High School, Marcos Jr. said AGAP.AI—or “agapay”—will help students understand how AI works, train teachers to integrate AI into lessons, and guide parents in the safe and responsible use of AI at home.

“This means that students will learn how AI works, teachers can learn how to integrate AI into their lessons, and parents can guide their children in using AI safely and wisely at home,” according to him.

The President said the education sector must ensure ethical and confident use of AI as schools enter a new era in 2026.

DepEd is crafting the country’s first national guidelines on AI in basic education through consultations with students, parents, teachers, and experts.

With support from the ASEAN Foundation and Google.org, DepEd will roll out AI skills training for up to 1.5 million Filipinos, covering responsible use, misinformation detection, privacy, security, and AI literacy.

DepEd will also pilot AI-powered tools for classrooms and school operations, while partnering with institutions like MIT to strengthen AI literacy and digital innovation in schools.IMT
